lab
after an illustrious 7 year career in the Sansom group. Ian's primary
interest was in the generation of models for the
voltage-gated potassium channel. He then decided to return to his
biochemical roots and do some wet work on the ABC transporters at the Institute of Molecular Medicine, at
Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital, before finally obtaining his own laboratory at
the university of Nottingham
Dr R Sankararamakrishnan
- A former
post-doc, Sankar modelled nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. After a
year working in the groups of Prof. Eric Jakobsson and Prof. Shankar
Subramaniam at the Beckman Institute, University of Illinois, Sankar
moved to take up a permanent position at Mount
Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Sankar is in the Physiology
and Biophysics Department.
Dr Jason Breed
- did his D.
Phil.
thesis entitled "Molecular modelling of ion channels" in the lab. He
managed to hand in his thesis, emigrate to Germany and get married
inside a week and has now taken up an EMBO fellowship in the lab of Dr.
Wolfram Welte at
Konstanz, Germany.
Dr Hyeon Song

entitled "Prediction of Membrane Protein Structure". Hyeon has also
contributed to the brian drain by going to do a post-doc in Germany at
the MPI
for Polymer Chemistry in Mainz. Hyeon has joined the Theory Group at
the MPI.
