AcrAB/TolC

Investigation on the efflux transportes is an increasingly more critical aspect in the research on the treatment of infectious diseases. In bacteria, resistance to drug often results from overexpression of multidrug efflux systems; among them, the AcrAB/TolC, expressed in E. coli, is mainly responsible for the resistance of the E. coli to antibiotics, disinfectants, dyes and detergents. The biomedical relevance of this project is to understanding the bacteria resistance via computational studies on the transporter AcrB, starting from its X-ray structure.
